2015 Worlds of Rink Hockey: Back on the 2nd Day of Competition

Game summaries

Group C: Brazil 2 – 3 Austria

Championnat du monde de rink hockey 2015The first game of Group C featured Team Brazil and Team Austria, two opposite styles: speed on the one side, physical strength on the other side.

Carnetro opens the score for the Brazilians and De Campos doubles it at 12′. The Austrian Huber reduces the gap just before the break.
Back from the break, the latter ties for his team. The Brazilians then try to speed up the pace of the game. But heavy penalties on both sides disrupt and chop the game. The Austrians, physically stronger, manage to get the advantage with a perfectly executed foul shot by Huber. The score won’t change anymore. The Brazilians start those worlds with much effort.

Group D: Chile 14 – 1 South Africa

The Chilean team starts off the game betting on speed and technical precision. The South Africans are quickly overrun, even if they are only 2 goals behind at the break: 3-1. The second period goes one-way only in favor of Chile who scores 11 more goals.

Group D: Colombia 2 – 3 Italy

For their first game, Italy meets Colombia. The South Americans, quickly warmed up, surprise the Italian goalie. Luis Gabriel Toro scores on the first minute. The Squadra Azzurra, cut to the quick, takes risks but the Colombian cage remains impenetrable during the first half. The goalie stops a foul shot at 12′, and manages three great blocks in a row. He is then saved by his post. The Colombians will keep their 1-goal lead until the break.
The second period starts just like the first, but little by little, the Italian team regains control over their opponent of the day. The Italian captain Montaran strikes with a shot that ties the scores. Then a few minutes later, on a solo incursion, he manages to foil the Colombian goalie.
Championnat du monde de rink hockey 2015The pace of the game speeds up. On both sides, foul shots are missed. Federico Ambrosio gives room to breathe to the Italians at the 34th minute.

Colombia manages to catch up on the score only 7 minutes before the end with a goal by Herrera. Too late, Italy wins 3 to 2.

Group B: Great Britain 1 – 8 Argentina

The Argentineans play a fast second game, based on the quality of their strength. They quickly lead the scores and reach the break with a 6-1 lead.
The second period doesn’t change the deal. The South Americans impose their game with confidence. They score two more times, winning the game 8 to 1.

Group B: Switzerland 1 – 3 Mozambique

The first period is quite balanced between the two teams. They alternate between collective teamwork and sealed defense.
At the break the teams are tied: 1-1 with a goal by Jimenez for Switzerland and one by Rodriguez for Mozambique.

As soon as the start of the second period, Mozambique speeds up and quickly gets a penalty, converted by Aarvui. The Swiss want to catch up on the score but they meet with the opposing goalie.
Championnat du monde de rink hockey 2015At 37′ a blue card goes to the Swiss #7. Aarvui fails in his attempt at direct foul shot. Mozambique doesn’t make the most of its numerical superiority over Switzerland.
28 seconds before the end, the Swiss make their 10th penalty, which enables Aarvui to convert his direct foul shot and make his team comfortable.

Group A: Spain 1 – 0 Angola / The sensation of the day

The pace is fast right away. The Spanish take hold of the ball and the Angolans counter attack. At the 6th min, the Angolan #8 gets a blue card. Gual fails the shot. One minute later the Angolans find themselves outnumbered by two, with another blue card. Pedro Gil scores. The rest of the penalty time is well handled by the Angolans. The game is very fast during that second period, and the Spanish often struggle against the opposing goalie.

At the break: Spain 1 – 0 Angola

The second period starts and the Angolans are about to get surprised. Their post stops a Spanish shot. Occasions shower down on both sides but the goalies remain vigilant. At 34′, the Spanish Jordi Bargalo gets a blue card, an advantage the Angola EspagneAngolans don’t make much good use of. But they catch up on the score thanks to Viera. Each team tries to force the decision but the game ends with a tie.

Extra time: Despite the Spanish domination, no goal is scored during the given time. Then come the penalty shootouts. After several attempts by both sides, stopped by their goalies, keeping the public on the tenterhooks, Spain is the first to shoot in the net, ensuring the victory and, in so doing, the first place of the group.

Group C: Portugal 5 – 2 Germany

The Portuguese impose a good pace to the game as soon as the beginning. The Germans don’t seem impressed for all that and create real goal occasions.
Yet, they yield twice. But they counter attack and catch up on the score before the break.

In second period, the Portuguese try to take the lead in imposing their pace. They take the advantage on a direct foul shot at 23′. Then they widen the gap with a very collective action concluded by Rafael.
Portugal gets a penalty at 46′, converted by Rodriguez, then another, 5 seconds before the end, which Rodriguez fails to convert.

Group A: France 7 – 0 Netherlands

The French play their second game of the 2015 Worlds. They must have watched very closely the Spain-Angola game for later… not without cold sweat some times!
The game starts slowly, the French are not often put in a difficult position by the Dutch. Carlo di Benetto and Rémy Herman score on several occasions.

With this 7-0 victory on the Netherlands, the French have worked on their goal average. They will now have to concentrate on the Tuesday evening game against Angola, a determining game for what is yet to come…
