The new speed-skating track of Heerde will be available in April 2015 and host the 2016 World Roller Speed Skating Champs

The city of Heerde (Netherlands) has decided to improve its track to host the 2016 World Roller Speed Skating Championships.
The initial flat track of Heerde was built in 2004. In 2008, the FIRS (International Federation of Roller Sports) has changed its specifications. The local club of Skeelerclub Oost-Veluwe (SKOV) had to adapt its track. Thus, a request has been made directly to the municipality to adapt the track to international specifications. On December 2014, 15th, the city of Heerde has granted a € 262,500 grant for the construction of the new track. The province will also bring the same amount. The club will find the rest of the amount. Total: € 750,000.
Volunteers will also give a hand to do a part of the job by themselves. The track should be finished in April 2015 with a brand new Vesmaco coating. The track will be 200 m long and 7 m wide instead of the usual 6m. It will however be approved by the FIRS. Thus World records will be validated.
The European Cup of Heerde on May 2 and 3 will be the occasion to inaugurate the equipment. Through this site, the Dutch club hopes to give more exposure to skating in a country where ice skating headlines.
