What is Skatecross?
The Skatecross is an obstacle race, which takes place in two phases.
A qualification part where the riders skate alone on the track in order to set their qualifying times (so they can choose their start line during the final part) and a final phase where all the qualified riders start in a group of 4, and should arrive at the 1st or 2nd place to reach the next round and advance to the final.
The skaters
More than forty skaters coming from all the type of skating (street, slalom, freeride, downhill) have skated the course during this week-end.
There were some newcomers for this season : the Red Bull Crashed Ice skaters (the same as the World Skate Cross Series but on ice). Many female skaters were also here for this 1st step.
The track
Some important modifications have been made to the skatepark in order to transform it in a true skatecross track.
As a result, it was an impressive race with a huge starting ramp and many crazy lines.
Women’s race
For the girls race, Marjorie Phlippoteau (FR), 1st of the 2011 general world ranking, has won with a huge advance on the other competitors. Maëliss Conan (FR) at the 2nd place and Jessica Billard (FR) at the 3rd place followed her.
A 100% french podium for the girl category
Men’s race
For the men, nobody could have said who was going to win. A huge line-up of riders showed up including Kevin Quintin and Pierre Lelièvre respectively 1st and 2nd of the 2011 general world ranking.
The winner of the final race is Kevin Quintin (FR) who has mastered the competition, despite all the surprises that happened during the races.
Comes next, 2nd place Flavien Du Peloux (FR) followed by Jim De Paoli (CH) at the 3rd place and then Falko Quinger (GER) with the 4th place.
Everyone has noticed the good performance of the competitors coming from the Crashed Ice.
Many skaters will meet in the next step of the World SkateCross Series in Beideihe, CHINA.
