2015 Worlds of Roller Hockey: Double finals for the Czech Republic
While the French keep on with their flawless performance, smashing the Italians in semi-finals, the Czech Republic allow themselves the luxury of qualifying both their teams for the finals, confirming even more their status of great nation of roller hockey. Focus on the penultimate day of the worlds
Senior Women: the Spanish failure
While India has already finished their worlds, getting the 9th place, the other teams keep on battling. Argentina got rid of Mexico with a score of 3 to 1 and will meet Italy for the 5th place game. The goalie level is very high, and the two semi-finals didn’t see much goals scored. The Czech Republic had to wait until the last minutes of the extra time to free themselves from the Finnish.
The Czech place themselves as the favorites for the title. However they will have to find the solution to foil the main weapon of the USA: Jetta Rackleff. With her 96.2% of goal stops since the beginning of the worlds, she is leading the goalies ranking, and enabled the USA to beat the Spanish 1 to 0.
The Spanish women, just like the juniors, struggled with the USA. And yet, in both divisions, they got hold of the puck and had many penalties in their favor to make the difference. Spain grows year after year but still hasn’t reached the bar of the finals (except for the junior women).
Junior Men: The stratospheric French
The juniors were less disposed to maintain the suspense. It’s been confirmed since the 7-0 group game between the USA and the Czechs that the East players are a cut above the rest. They did it again without answering to the opposing provocations, hammering a score of 11-1.
The France-Italy game promised to be much more open. At least on paper, because the French left no chance to the Italians, choking them little by little, playing like world champions eager to keep their title. The 8-2 victory is clear and puts the French in the best conditions to meet the Czechs in Finals. The ultimate game is going to be physical. It will be the rematch of last year where the French had knocked out the quintuple world champions to everyone’s surprise, at home, in an arena on fire, and during the extra time. The Czechs want their revenge and seem even stronger this year.
Mexico and Colombia will meet on Sunday morning for the 7th place, before Spain and Switzerland for the 5th place game. the Junior finals will take place at 5:15pm, and will be followed by the women’s finals at 6:15pm.
