Interview
Hi Jenna. Thank you for granting us a little of your time at the moment in spite of the release of your pro model. Can you tell us a few words about it?
Last year my skate sponsor Razors offered me the opportunity to have my own pro skate. Of course I said yes! I then went onto work with a skilled design team to ensure the skate looked just the way I wanted.
From the type of boot mould to the liner and wheels, everything has been designed to compliment my skating style and personality. The skate choice for me was the Razors Super Light (SL). This lightweight design removes all excess plastic that is found in traditional inline skates to gives it that ‘super light’ feel. After many different design variations, I finally found one that I fell in love with and the Razors Jenna Downing SL Pro Model was born!
In more than a decade, you are the first woman to get your own pro skate (since Tasha Hogdson in 1996). Are you proud of it?
I am so proud. This isn’t just an achievement for me, but for all women skaters around the world. We are finally being shown the respect we deserve.
You are really involved in roller skating…
Yes, I have been skating now for 18 years and professionally for 13 years. My biggest achievements were winning the LG Action Sports World Championships, getting a silver medal at the X-Games, and being a 10 x British Champion. Now, as well as still skating, my passion is about giving back to young people, teaching others how to skate, and helping to keep my sport alive.
The idea to help the research against breast cancer: where does it come from?
During the process of designing the skate I suffered from a Breast Cancer scare and decided that I wanted to draw awareness to the dangers of Breast Cancer that affect women across the world. This has been symbolised by having a pink ribbon on the side of the skate. I will also be donating 100% of the profit I will make from this skate to Breast Cancer Care to help support their continued research.
Thank you again to have us to grant of time!
