Paris-London 2012 with “Mobile en Ville”

5 days, 50 Participants et 500 Kilometres, on skates and wheelchairs.
We are just a few days away before the start of the long range raid on skates and wheelchairs organized by the French Mobile En Ville (« mobile in the city ») association.

The concept: 5 days, 50 people and 500 km to be covered between Paris and London.

During the London Paralympic Games, and as part of its « Living Together » activities, Mobile En Ville is embarking on a human and athletic challenge: from Paris to London in five days, from August 29 to September 2, with roller-blades and wheelchairs.
Together, it is possible!

This project fits within the themes of disability, sports, solidarity and has a strong environmental focus. Paris-London 2012 is both an athletic and solidarity challenge.

500 kilometres in 5 days

Ours is an ambitious goal : ride from Paris to London in 5 days.

To maximize safety and pleasure, the course follows cycle paths and greeen routes as much as possible.  Come and encourage us on the course or at stopovers!

The project objectives

  1. Promote self-achievement via sports : demonstrate that one can overcome handicapping limits and differences, as all take the sporting challenge together.
  2. Highlight the value of shared athletic exercise, sports as a social medium, activity of « Togetherness » where both valid and handicapped people can team together and reach for a common goal.

Expected outcomes

1.  Coming together. This project unites valid people and people with disabilities to share moments of friendship and support.

2.  Shedding a positive light on each individual and his/her personal abilities. This project also has an awareness dimension ; it demonstrates that anybody, fully able-bodied or not, can overachieve to raise up to ambitious challenges.

3.  Solidarity and mutual support. This project is based on collaboration : skaters take turns at pushing wheelchairs, cheer each other on, team together for up-hills. Each person in a wheelchair helps pass the difficulties according to his/her possibilities. In the UK, British roller skaters will join the group to meet this challenge together. And each and everyone, all according to their own skills, get involved in the project preparation at various level. It is the team together that will reach the goal.
