2016-2017 Euroleague of Rink Hockey: Brilliant Success of Reus Deportiu in the Final Against Oliveirense

The European title will stay in Spain this year! Deportiu did a brilliant performance against Oliveirense in the final of the Final Four, at the 2017 European League of Rink Hockey, that took place in Spain on May 13th and 14th. The Catalan team, coached by Enrico Marrioti, won the event for the 8th time in their history.

The day before, Reus had surprised everybody in winning their semi-final against the defending champions of SL Benfica. During the final, Reus did even better in seizing the victory to Oliveirense, who had already reached the final in 2016.

A Balanced First Period

The black-and-whites got the upper hand as soon as the first minutes. Raul Marin opened the score for Reus Deportiu after 2 minutes. The Catalans missed several opportunities that would have made them widen a comfortable gap. Their goal keeper, Pedro Henriques, made wonders in the cage. He is one of the actors of their victory. Yet, Oliveirense managed to equalize before the half-time break on a direct shot by Pablo Cancela.

Second Period: Reus Dominating Without Contest

Back from the break, Albert Casanovas scored, giving more room to Reus (2-1). Reus confirmed their supremacy when Marc Torra scrored twice in less than a minute, sealing for good the fate of Oliveirense. In the stands, the thousands of supporters of Reus burst into joy, celebrating their victory.

Focus on the Final Four of the Continental Cup

The results of this final determined the semi-finalists of the first edition of the Final Four of the Continental Cup, that shoud be held at the beginning of next season, probably in October. The four participating teams are the finalists of the Euroleague and the CERS Cup. The semi-finals will be:

• Reus Deportivo (ESP) – CGC Viareggio (ITA)
• OC Barcelos (POR) – UD Oliveirense (POR)
