The 3rd stage of the 2016 German Inline Cup took place in Salzburg on August, 13th, under a big bright sun and high temperatures. The 250 registered skaters enjoyed optimal conditions for their 10-lap marathon. 125 mm wheels were allowed.

Men’s Race: Determined at the Sprint

Tobias Hecht (TAX Team Racing) won the men’s marathon at the sprint, in front of Ondrej Suchý (Czech National Team) and Swiss Yannick Friedli. The photo finish was needed to decide between the first 3. From the very the start, the race was shaken up by many breakaways, all without success. Half-way through the marathon, the pack was still dense and we witnessed a mass arrival.

Women’s Race: The Great Escape

As soon as the second lap, a group of 4 skaters took shape, with Katharina Rumpus, (Powerslide Matter), Claudia Maria Henneken (pecbi.de Team), Katja Ulbrich and Ana Odlázek.
During the 7th lap, the 3 Germans broke away. The brand-new European Champion of marathon Katharina Rumpus imposed herself in the final sprint, against her compatriots, Katja Ulbrich and Claudia Maria Henneken.

Katharina Rumpus said:

“Once we had managed to break away, I had faith in my capacities. But you can never be sure of the evolution of a race. My plan worked. I’m proud of my victory. The circuit was awesome.”
