Opening ceremony
The organization presents a successful and quality show, with smoke and light effects. The Vendespace lends itself particularly well to those types of demos. Unlike the Worlds of Roller Hockey in Toulouse last year, the public is in the immediate proximity of the court. The nations parade one by one to dance music. Applauses are particularly sustained at the entrance of Petro Gil (Spain), considered as the best player in the world.
9:15pm: France Vs. Spain
The climax! It’s a hard game to start with for France. Spain is the most decorated team in the history of rink hockey, with no less than 16 rewards to the day.
Hardly a few minutes after the beginning of the game, the Spanish manage to get a direct foul shot: the French captain, Sébastien Furstenberger, gets a blue card after a penalty on the star of the Spanish team, Pedro Gil. The French are outnumbered. Spain makes the most of it to open the score at 5′, on an action by Marc Gual of the FC Barcelona.
Fabien Savreux, the French head coach, makes a few changes, putting Florent David, Alberto Morales and Anthony Weber on the court.
Pedro Gil is a threat but the French goalie keeps his eyes open. Unfortunately, a few moments later, Marc Gual scores another goal at 15′, giving a 2-point lead to Spain.
Back on the court, Sébastien Furstenberger shoots for France, without success. And Spain increase their lead again, one minute before the break.
In second period, the Spanish do it again, right from the outset, numbing the French a little more. Florent David tries his luck but stumbles on the goalie. The French score will open at 29′ only, with a shot by Carlo Di Benedetto.
Spain keeps on widening the gap, with Pedro Gil serving Josep Lamas who scores. Rémy Herman reacts to it but the FC Barcelona goalie, Aitor Egurrola, stops the shot.
Pedro Gil serves Gual another time, for a 6th and last goal in favor of Spain.
France will meet the Netherlands and then Angola. Spain should take the lead of the group without surprise.
Final score: France 1-6 Spain
